The one thing we did hear though was from players who felt like donors week after week.
So we thought about having an A pool and a B pool. But after working out the logistics and talking with some of our members, we concluded that the cons outweighed the pros, and we went back to the drawing board.
After doing some research and again talking with members, we are going to try a handicapped PDGA league...
First and most importantly, this is an experiment!! Handicaps get better with more rounds, so there may be some anomalies in early weeks. Please be patient with Derek and I while we work out the handicapping details.
The gist of the idea is that you play the same stroke play we always have for league. That number will be reported to PDGA and you will get your AM points and your player rating for each week. In addition players will be assigned a handicap. For everyone that played in the spring we will formulate a starting handicap. Disc Golf Scene will take over after that. People with 1 or no rounds will be playing scratch golf to start. I will be happy to discuss the recipe with anyone who is interested. The short version is that it is not a just an average of your rounds, we will be tweaking it, and our goals is for this to be fair and fun for all those involved.
Based on spring league here are a couple handicaps. I would be going in with a handicap of 7.75 (might round up to 8) Frank would be a 0 or scratch and Double D would have a handicap of 2. I will have a list before it starts on the 20th
The handicap will be used to figure out the Otter Brook weekly payouts. Our goal was to keep what we liked about PDGA league, but at same time reward any player who has a personal best day and give more people an opportunity to cash at league! We hope you like the changes and please feel free to share your feedback with Derek and I.
Should be a great way to close out the summer!!
