Otter Brookians...what a summer so far! Couple of the highlights.
#1 This is a big one. After waiting for a year and a half, we finally got the back 9 tees in. Our last one, Hole 17, went in July 6th. Earlier in the year we had an amazing work day and did in a day what took us 6-7 months back in 2014!
#2 We broke in the newly completed back 9 with quite the tourney weekend. We had 41 players for a Live Free and Drive Event on Saturday and then ran an AMAZING 80 players through for Trilogy Challenge. Derek Dussault had been getting his toes wet with Sunday League and last years wig round, but as TD for his first big event, he knocked it out of the park. And we have a bunch more events planned for this year! Check out the schedule!
#3 Club growth! We again have nearly 60 paid members. As I have said before, this was an unimaginable number just a few years back. Another part of club growth that has been amazing to watch is player improvement!! I said same thing about last year also, and there has been another jump. Scores we have been getting this summer in both singles and dubz have been epic.
#4 Course Stewardship. I have been pleasantly surprised with how little trash I have seen on the course. I know it happens, but we take care of this course, and if a can is left behind, it is picked up almost immediately by the next guy through. Otter Brook is one of the cleanest courses I have played. But above and beyond that folks have been stepping up and cleaning up there favorite holes. This is a chore that never ends. Lets keep this rolling. Pick a project and grab some buddies and knock it out. Things that come to mind are clearing sticks, raking fairways or greens, clean up around tees, or any number of other little projects. Dont know what to do...ask. We will find something for you to help out.
So now what? Well there is no rest for the weary. As I see it we have 3 areas to work on going forward.
The Course. This will never end. We will always have projects. Next on the list are laying out B Tees for the back 8 (10 has one). Working to make our trails safer, adding benches, hopefully getting some information Kiosks up for both Top and Bottom Lots. We are still working with ACoE on our Lease agreement.
Evangelism. I would love to see some sort of "learn to play" events, women centric events and kid friendly events. We have priced those blue state signs you see on the highway and would love to have one a 1/4 mile each direction on Rte 9.
Finance. All this good stuff has cost us money. We recently dropped a chunk so that all our league and tourney events are insured. We spent a bunch for tees, marking brushes etc etc. So as of today we have just over 1000$ in the bank. Not too shabby considering all that we have done this summer. New memberships and league helps fill the confers. There are many ideas floating around out there and almost none of them are free. A learn to play day would cost money. The signs and kiosks cost money etc etc. Point being we are probably going to be looking at doing some fund raising in the future and our always looking for ideas to have fun and put some benjamins in the coffers.
These are just some thoughts and ideas. This is your club and your course and we want to hear your ideas. Both for what you want and what you may want to see Keene Disc work on in the future.
